Group
Criteria:
A
support group for grandparents (Kinship) will be available for people
who are raising children due to separation, death, incarceration,
financial difficulties, mental health, or loss of one or both of
their biological parents.
Group
Goal: The
purpose of the Kanik Grandparent Support Group is to assist
grandparents with concerns they might have with legal issues,
financial issues, school issues, adult child who is not caring for
young child, siblings of adult child, psychological changes in child,
and feelings involved with changes in their lives.
Objectives: The
group setting will provide an environment conducive to the group to
express what would be useful to them and make the group theirs. Some
areas that could be utilized:
Group
members will learn to express what they would like to see change in
their lives.
Group
members will learn effective communication skills.
Group
members will learn to set boundaries with child and child’s
parents.
Group
members will learn what their feelings are and how to express them
respectfully.
Group
members will learn how to interact with the child’s school
system.
Group
members will learn resources for legal concerns.
Group
members will learn resources for mental health resources.
